Visualizing the Data

When working with large quantities of text, it's helpful to create visualizations (especially graphs) to see larger patterns that you might not notice up close. Starting with this page, you can go through the step-by-step process of choosing your focus and visualization strategy until you have your very own interactive chart that you can analyze. We used Word2Vec to look for words that were similar in context and use; basically, the program looks for synonyms and analogies to your chosen word. If you're not quite sure what that means or what you're supposed to do with it, head over to our "How to Use This Site" page which explains it all in detail.

Of course, you can only look at the data we've already collected, which centers around the use of seven different names in Rowling's novels and 450 pieces of fan fiction. So, to start, you need to choose which of these seven character names you would like to focus on by clicking on one button below (don't worry, you can always come back and look at another character name later):

If you have any questions on who to choose, check out the How To on this particular page here.
